About the S. cerevisiae genome

Assembly and Annotation

Saccharomyces cerevisiaeThe data on this site is a direct import of the Saccharomyces Genome Database dataset for the Saccharomyces cerevisiae S288C genome. For this release a new genomic feature (2 Micron Plasmid) is introduced. No additional genebuild was carried out, but a series of blast runs was done to provide ESTs and other similarity data.

We have included S.cerevisiae into the Ensembl system to allow people to access the data through the Ensembl user interface (both for visualisation and data mining) and to provide cross-species integration through our comparative genomics resources (such as homologous gene links and protein family/domain pages).

The canonical data for S.cerevisiae is managed at SGD.

  • API changes - regulatory features
Regulatory feature support has been moved from the core API to the functional genomics API. More information about using the new code...
  • Removal of viral genes
We have removed a total of about 1200 viral genes from the following species.

  • Mart updates
RGD and SGD Symbol+ID combinations have been introduced, similar to HGNC, MGI and ZFIN. The issue with subsets of homologs being returned has been resolved.
  • Compara updates

    Multiple alignments

We are now using the new enredo-pecan-ortheus (EPO) pipeline for 7-way alignments (placental mammals).
