Does Ensembl provide the karyotypes and cytogenetic banding patterns for its annotated genomes?
Karyotypes and cytogenetic banding patterns are provided only for the species where this information is known and available to us.
Not all genomes have been assembled into chromosomes and therefore they are provided as scaffolds only.
See an example of a karyotype view in the Platypus genome.
The Ensembl species with cytogenetic banding patterns available are fruitfly, human, mouse and rat. See an example of a cytogenetic banding pattern in the rat genome.
