HumanEnsembl Home

Does Ensembl provide the karyotypes and cytogenetic banding patterns for its annotated genomes?

Karyotypes and cytogenetic banding patterns are provided only for the species where this information is known and available to us.

Not all genomes have been assembled into chromosomes and therefore they are provided as scaffolds only. In release 71, we provide karyotype information for the following 30 species:

  • Anole lizard
  • Ciona intestinalis
  • Caenorhabditis elegans
  • Cat
  • Chicken
  • Chimpanzee
  • Cow
  • Dog
  • Fruifly
  • Gorilla
  • Horse
  • Human
  • Macaque
  • Marmoset
  • Medaka
  • Mouse
  • Opossum
  • Orangutan
  • Pig
  • Platypus
  • Rabbit
  • Rat
  • Saccharomyces cerevisae
  • Sheep
  • Spotted Gar
  • Sticleback
  • Tetraodon
  • Turkey
  • Zebra Finch
  • Zebrafish

The Ensembl species with cytogenetic banding patterns available are fruitfly, human, mouse and rat. See an example of a cytogenetic banding pattern in the rat genome.
